True isotropic imaging at 0.5 mm resolution is one of the most important capabilities of multi-slice scanning. It means images with the same resolution can be obtained in any sectional plane: axial, coronal or sagittal. The resulting 3-D volume capabilities let you view anatomy in the optimal perspective for a more complete and detailed view of the pathology — even in an off-axis orientation.

Uniquely Toshiba — "Real" Quad Slice Detector

Toshiba's detector innovation centers on its width. At 32 mm, it's 60% wider than other detectors available. This allows Toshiba to incorporate 34 rows of elements into the array, for a total of over 30,000 detector elements. The four middle rows are 0.5 mm wide, and they are flanked on each side by fifteen (15) 1.0 mm rows.

Toshiba's detector is the only detector with four 0.5 mm rows, making it the only true "Quad" detector currently available. Its ability to acquire four, 0.5 mm slices per 1/2-second rotation unlocks the true power of multi-slice imaging. With this detector, 3-D volume imaging in any plane is possible with the same image resolution as the axial slice. This is called perfect isotropic imaging, and, currently only Toshiba has produced a detector able to do this.

Toshiba's innovative detector design is highly efficient. By placing ultra-thin separators, only microns in width, between each detector element, Toshiba maximizes the detector's geometric efficiency in absorbing X-rays. This helps decrease image noise, which allows the operator to maximize image quality at minimum dose levels.
