Aquilion 8
The gateway to advanced CT applications
Sharing the same proprietary Quantum detector technology as the Aquilion 16, the Aquilion 8 has a combination of speed and resolution not available in any other system in its class. Designed to fit your clinical and budgetary needs, the Aquilion 8 also provides peace of mind with a dedicated upgrade path to 16-slice productivity. The new Aquilion 8 delivers stunning 0.5mm Isotropic Imaging and optional 400 msec full rotation capability. Toshiba's easy upgrade program provides a field upgrade path to the Aquilion 16.
The Megacool Tube A revolutionary new concept in X-ray tubes
AquilionTM 8 was designed specifically for high resolution, high throughput multislice scanning. To allow clinicians to take advantage of the true power of multislice CT, Toshiba designed the MegacoolTM X-ray tube which essentially eliminates tube cooling delays no matter how heavy the patient load.
The 7.5 MHu X-Ray tube utilizes new Anode-Grounding technology, with double-sided bearings and anode interlocked cooling, a significant advance over any other X-ray tube.
Megacool Design Innovations
PureFocus design to reduce heat loading by 30% Dual-fluid cooling system for unsurpassed 1.4 MHU/min. cooling rate Dual shaft support for reliable tube performance up to 100,000 rotations and beyond
Real-Time CT Greater Scan Precision Through Live Observation
Multislice scanning is invaluable for interventional procedures and contrast imaging, but its true potential can only be realized by providing real-time feedback for the operator. To unleash the full operational power of multi-slice scanning, Toshiba created Aspire Continuous Imaging with real-time display so operators can perform essentially live observations.
Real-Time CT Advantages
Automatic background reconstruction of up to 12 frames per second so operators can watch the scan as it actually happens Terminate the exam immediately after the region of interest has been scanned, saving time and reducing patient dose When patient movement causes things to change, make adjustments while the patient is still on the table Observe contrast saturation to ensure that studies are performed correctly the first time
400msec Scanning
Field upgradeable to 400msec scanning, the Aquilion 8 can provide increased temporal resolution and high-speed throughput. The 400msec gantry rotation time is of value in many clinical applications. Cardiac imaging studies are perhaps the most apparent applications for high speed CT.
Variable rotation times, combined with intelligent, adaptive software, reconstructs image data collected from as many as 4 cardiac cycles, making the Aquilion's temporal resolution comparable to that of an electron beam scanner.
Real EC Personalized exposure control
Toshiba's Made For Life philosophy drives our concern for image quality and patient safety. So we designed Aquilion's Quantum detector with low noise characteristics to achieve excellent image quality for clinicians with the lowest possible patient dose.
Because every patient's anatomy is unique, Real ECTM allows helical scans to be automatically optimized for each individual patient. Based upon the initial scanogram, or scout view, Real EC adjusts the tube current with every rotation of the gantry, resulting in low patient dose with optimal image quality.
Real EC Advantages
Reduce dose as much as 30% during helical scanning Tube current is modified based on actual patient anatomy Tube current adjusted with every rotation of the gantry
ConeView Reconstruction Patented accuracy for 8 slice imaging
As CT expands to 16 or more slices, new reconstruction techniques are required due to the geometry of data acquisition. Aquilion's patented ConeviewTM reconstruction utilizes a proprietary algorithm based on the Feldkamp principle to ensure the best possible image quality when scanning with 16 slices.
Toshiba's Made For Life philosophy drives us to always deliver the best patient care within our power. So rather than compromise slice profile and image integrity by simply modifying existing algorithms, Toshiba took the more challenging approach of creating a new algorithm more appropriately suited to 8 or16 slice scanning. The result is astonishing image clarity and resolution.
Isotropic Scanning
Only Toshibas CT technology offers true isotropic voxels, which greatly enhance most clinical studies, including examinations of the lungs, joints, extremities and CT angiography. Isotropic data sets also markedly improve the quality of MPR and 3-D reconstructions, which aid the radiologist not only in diagnosis, but also in managing the huge amount of information generated by multi-slice scanners.
Toshiba has succeeded in developing isotropic imaging based on the standards of 0.5mm slices for the head and 1mm slices for the abdomen. Applications for 0.5mm slice scanning are studies of the cerebral circulation, lungs, spine, joints and extremities. This technology has resulted in expanded utilization of computed tomography and a dramatic increase in the types of studies in which it is of value
